Sharing dinner with your parrot is a favorite pastime of parrots and parrot owners. There are some human foods that are toxic to birds and must be avoided. The general rule is "If it's healthy for you then it's healthy for your parrot." But there are always exceptions to the rule and these are some of the exceptions to the rule. Here's a list of the top ten human foods that are toxic to birds.

1. Chocolate - You might love chocolate but it's toxic to birds.
2. Avocado - Not real common in my household but it is often used in chip dips.
3. Garlic - Not only will it give you garlic breath but it may kill your parrot so avoid garlic and anything that has garlic in it.
4. Onion - Onions seem to be everywhere so be careful.
5. Alcohol - All alcohol is toxic to birds.
6. Caffeine - This includes teas, coffees, and sodas.
7. Rhubarb - It's delicious to us but not for your parrot.
8. Fruit Pits - Most fruits are safe but the pits should be avoided.
9. Mushrooms - Some are worse than others so just avoid all mushrooms to be safe.
10. Junk Food - Most junk foods are either high in Salt, Fat, or Sugar. These are unhealthy for you and your parrot.
